In an updated report by PWInsider, it says that the SmackDown Women’s Championship match for this weekend’s big event is still moving forward. The newest word states that both women are cleared to compete and will be on SmackDown this Friday the night before SummerSlam.
There were reported concerns of the match not taking place once Banks and Belair did not compete over this past weekend at two live shows. WWE announcer Byron Saxton had told the crowd that Belair and Banks would not be in action as advertised due to “unforeseen circumstances.”
It is important to note that this was the only explanation given and WWE never commented on it on television. As of this past Monday’s RAW, the advertisement for the championship match at the biggest event of the summer was still being advertised. And at the time of this writing, Banks nor Belair have commented on it as well.
The original report on the match not moving forward as planned came from PWInsider as well. They stated that “several sources inside the company who expressed concern” that the WrestleMania rematch “will not take place at Summerslam this weekend.” The report also states that there “is nothing confirmed in that regard.”
Matches for SummerSlam include:
Alexa Bliss (w/Lilly) vs. Eva Marie (w/Doudrop)
SmackDown Women’s Title
Bianca Belair (c) vs. Sasha Banks
RAW Women’s Title Triple Threat Match
Nikki A.S.H. (c) vs. Rhea Ripley vs. Charlotte Flair
