It was announced on tonight’s SmackDown that SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair will face Sasha Banks at SummerSlam on Saturday, Aug. 21. This will be their rematch from WrestleMania in April where the two made history and Belair defeated Banks to win her first title within WWE.
Banks made her return last week after a four-month hiatus and shocked Belair when she embraced her after saving the champion from Carmella and Zelina Vega. By the end of last week’s show, Banks showed her true colors and attacked the champion.
The Boss started the show off this week by explaining her actions upon her return. According to Banks, Belair would be nothing without her. She says she has returned for one thing, and that is to make Bianca pay.
Belair made her way out to the ring and on her way down she would declare that Banks essentially begged her to be her opponent at WrestleMania after she won the Royal Rumble. After some back and forth, Belair agreed to face Banks at SummerSlam and the match was booked. But there was one woman who had a problem with this, Zelina Vega.
Vega entered the conversation and said that she requested a title match last week and is wanting one still. Belair agreed to face Vega tonight and said she will see Banks at SummerSlam. Although Vega still expected a title match, WWE Authority Sonya Deville and Adam Pearce decided that she needs to earn a title match. So Vega went one-on-one with Belair tonight in a non-title match to prove herself.
Unfortunately for Vega, she wasn’t able to solidify a future title shot as Belair defeated her with the KOD to get the pin.
Also on tonight’s SmackDown, Tegan Nox faced one-half of the Women’s Tag Team Champions, Tamina. Tamina is representing the tag team champions on her own as Natalya is out for a few weeks from an injury. Once Nox and Shotzi debuted on the blue brand they picked up a couple of upset wins on the champions. Nox continues this momentum as she was able to put Tamina away and get a win.
Shotzi and Nox have their eyes set on becoming future Women’s Tag Team Champions.
