Total Divas stars Brie and Nikki Bella took part in a Google+ Hangout today, discussing the upcoming reality show with fans. The event was hosted by WWE interviewer Renee Young.
In the 45 minute interview, the twins covered a number of topics, including what it was like to start training for wrestling in FCW, their relationships with Daniel Bryan and John Cena and whether elements of Total Divas are scripted.
Nikki also reveals why she got breast implants and admits to having an injury that’s keeping her on the sidelines.
The interview was very open and surprisingly revelatory. Below are tidbits we’ve taken from the Hangout:
On how their boyfriends reacted to being on Total Divas: Brie says Bryan was “amazing” with it. She thought he would be shy in front of the cameras, but he stole the show. She says you see a whole different side to him on the show. Nikki says John was “super supportive” and “excited” for her.
Nikki on her first impression of Eva Marie: “This girl is hungry. She’s going to do whatever [it takes] to get what she wants.”
Comparing their start to how rookie Divas have it today: “With the new WWE Performance Center, there is no excuse to not be a superstar when you come on TV.” Nikki says when they started training, they had to train in a warehouse with no A/C. They had to change the mats every hour because of sweat build-up. They even got ringworm from the conditions.
How Brie deals with Daniel Bryan’s massive beard: Brie is a “hippie at heart” and thus loves hair. He’s her “lumberjack”. She loves it and tells him to keep growing it. Nikki has the complete opposite opinion.
Why their in-ring style has changed: Nikki says, “When we were pulling off the really cool moves, we were good guys.” She says they can’t have the same style as heels. She also points out that back then, they had a lot of great workers like Jillian Hall, Mickie James, Beth Phoenix and Melina. Nikki says they’re in an era where they’re rebuilding the Divas division, so there aren’t as many good workers.
On getting in-ring time: “We’re dying for time on TV.” They say that you should come to a live event, where you get to see them in 10 minute matches.
On which Bella should go after AJ’s Divas Title: Nikki says, “Technically, it should be me.” She says when she lost the Divas Title to Layla, Brie was pinned, so she technically never lost the Divas Title. She reveals that she is going through an injury that she’s “hiding”, so it probably won’t be her.
Why Nikki decided to get breast implants: She says, “Brie was blessed with an amazing body. She could eat a burger and it doesn’t show.” Nikki says she has more curves, and noticed when she was approaching 30 that her “girls” were vanishing. She got sick of wearing the Victoria‘s Secret double-padded bras. Nikki says she’s got more “on the bottom” compared to Brie, and the implants help balance her out.
The twins’ reltionship: Their relationship is like a “29 year marriage”. They get grouchy with each other, and then can’t live without each other.
If they could face and beat any Diva, who would it be?: Divas Champion AJ Lee. “She has what we want.”
On what Total Divas reveals about them: Nikki says, “All my best friends never saw me cry. Now the whole world will see me cry.” Brie says having their personal lives exposed to the world is like “wrestling naked”.
How to show presents their relationships: Brie says it will be surprising to see how far along her relationship with Daniel Bryan is, since so many years of it were under wraps. She says there will be a “big moment” in their relationship this season. Nikki reveals that she is asked a “very special question” this season. Nikki says she’ll probably get a “ton of haters” for being seen with Cena. She thinks fans will enjoy seeing a “softer side” of him.
Moments they wanted to shut down the cameras: When their WrestleMania 29 match was cut. Nikki says the match was cut while they were in gorilla, waiting to make their entrance.
Is the show scripted?: Brie says the show “is not scripted”.
Total Divas co-star they’re closest with: Natalya. When they came into developmental, Natalya was very sweet to them, stayed after practice with them and helped them learn wrestling. There is nothing but respect for her.
Biggest pain in the butt on the show: Brie says it’s between Cameron and Eva Marie. Nikki says Brie. Brie clarifies that Cameron has won her over after filming the show.
Upcoming projects: Brie and Nikki are filming an “action comedy” in September. They’re also launching a clothing line soon, starting with leggings. The clothing line has been in the works for a long time. They’ve also joined partners in a club in Austin, Texas.
What did it mean to hold the Divas Title?: Nikki says it feels like, “All you hard work has paid off”. Brie says it might not be the Women’s Championship, but it’s the same company and the only title for women in the WWE.
On their first dates with John and Daniel: Nikki says her and John were good friends for so long that when their first date came along her cheeks were on fire and she couldn’t talk. Brie’s with Bryan was intimate, hanging out at a cafe. After working in a storyline together, Brie and Daniel knew each other. Nikki says they would always flirt with each other. Nikki thought it was weird to see it develop.
Favorite ring gear they’ve worn: Brie says it’s the black leather gear with the metal strip worn when Brie held the Divas Title. Nikki says it’s a black one they wore near the end of their first WWE run. She says they took it from a Britney Spears concert. She says it was “very dominatrix”.
How has Total Divas affected their personal relationships? Nikki says it’s helped her relationship with her father, which has been strained since she was 15. E! wanted to bring them back together and Brie helped convince her to do it. Brie says their grandmother is very conservative and they’re not sure if they should let her watch it. Nikki says there’s no cleavage or cussing around their grandma, so they’re feeling anxiety about her watching Total Divas.
What if John and Daniel want to wrestle for another 10 or 20 years?: They are understanding and supportive of Daniel and John’s careers, no matter how long they want to continue it.
