Dr. Britt Baker has moved on to the semi-finals of the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. She will be facing Toni Storm next.
The former AEW Women’s World Champion had a match on this week’s Dynamite against a mystery opponent. “The Joker” opponent was revealed to be Maki Itoh. Itoh and Baker have a history with each other as a tag team when they teamed up for a victory at Revolution in 2021. They defeated Riho and Thunder Rosa in that bout.
In a relatively short match, Baker would make Itoh submit to the Lock Jaw. After the match, Storm would make her way to the stage for a staredown with Baker who was still in the ring.
On the other side of the brackets, Ruby Soho has already advanced after defeating Riho. Her opponent will be decided this Friday on Rampage as Red Velvet takes on Kris Statlander.
Mere moments later, Tony Schiavone was in the ring talking about the upcoming third-year anniversary of AEW and Double or Nothing.
Serena Deeb cut him off and told him that she is so tired of hearing him speak. She says she heard what he said last week and that Thunder Rosa was going to win their title match at Double or Nothing. After verbally assaulting Schiavone, she turned her attention to Dustin Rhodes and called him out to the ring. Rhodes is considered the coach and mentor of Rosa.
Deeb says that Rhodes knows the sacrifices that she has had to endure. All the dues that she had to pay to make wrestling a good place for women today. She says Rhodes knows how hard it was for women to be in the business in that era. She had to have breast implants put in just to satisfy some old perverts. She shaved her head to show how bad she wanted it. And still, she got no respect.
She wanted to know why Rhodes shows her no respect and doesn’t believe that she can beat Rosa. He wouldn’t answer. Rosa finally made her way down to the ring as Deeb slaps Rhodes across the face.
Rhodes restrains Rosa’s attack which had Rosa inadvertently hit him with a back elbow. Deeb grabs the gold and uses it as a weapon to the head of the champion. Deeb ends the segment with the title in hand on the ramp.
The two will meet one week from Sunday at Double or Nothing on May 29.
