Britt Baker signs with All Elite Wrestling

Early Tuesday morning, while everyone was winding down from their New Year’s celebrations, the Elite made a game-changing announcement on their YouTube channel. After months of rumors, All Elite Wrestling is official.

This left fans and critics anxious to see what this meant for women’s wrestling. Well according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dr. Britt Baker, DMD, signed a contract with AEW.

Dave Meltzer broke the news earlier tonight. Baker will join Brandi Rhodes as the first women to establish the AEW Women’s Division.

She was one of four women who took part in the four-corner survival match at All In, back in September. The standout match also included: current Impact Knockouts Champion Tessa Blanchard, Madison Rayne, and Chelsea Green.

Some considered the match a show-stealer on the groundbreaking card. So, it wasn’t farfetched to assume at least one of the four would be a part of the Elite’s plans for the future.

Baker has been an active indie wrestler since 2015. She’s worked for Stardom, RISE, SHIMMER, and Ring of Honor. Last year, she was also involved in a few NXT tapings, as well as the Mae Young Classic. This lead some to believe she would eventually sign with WWE, especially after Chelsea Green signed with them last fall.

There’s still a lot we don’t know going into the All Elite Wrestling/Double or Nothing rally on Jan. 8. But this is a huge acquisition and what could be the first surprise steal for new promotions. Hopefully, this is a sign they are serious about presenting fans and women wrestlers with a new alternative in the coming year.
