Candice LeRae wins Battle Royal for a shot at the NXT Women’s Title

On this week’s NXT there was a Battle Royal to determine who would go on to be Io Shirai‘s next opponent for the NXT Women’s Title. The Poison Pixie herself, Candice LeRae, would be the last woman standing as she last eliminated Shotzi Blackheart.

The match originally started with only 11-women announced, but when it came down to the match, there were several other talents added. One important name that was part of the 11 names announced was Tegan Nox. She was taken out of the match before it began in the backstage area.

LeRae first was seen attacking Nox with a lead pipe, focusing on the knee. After officials were helping Nox who was screaming in pain, LeRae would then add more injury to Nox’s knee by driving a cargo crate into her.

LeRae and Rhea Ripley were the only two women to get their full entrances aired as the ring full of about 20-women was ready to go.

Ripley and Raquel Gonzalez took turns thinning out the herd in what appeared to be a competition on which woman could eliminate the most. The two powerhouses of the match ended up eliminating each other when there were only seven competitors left.

Kacy Catanzaro had perhaps the best showing throughout the match. She did what she does best in over-the-top-rope situations by doing everything she could to prevent having her feet touch the floor.

This strategy had her make her way to the final four left in the match. She joined LeRae, Blackheart, and Dakota Kai. Catanzaro was eliminated by Kai next. Afterward, Kai and LeRae attempted to team up to take out Blackheart. Kai went for a kick in the corner which led to Blackheart dumping her on the outside.

This left us with two. After LeRae and Blackheart did battle for several minutes, the two ended up on the steel steps. LeRae was mere inches from being eliminated but was able to utilize her feet and launched Blackheart to the ringside floor.

LeRae will be challenging Io Shirai for her title at the upcoming TakeOver event which is scheduled for Oct. 4.
