Tonight on SmackDown Live (Jan 30th), Carmella took a chance to become the SmackDown Women’s Champion by attempting to cash in her MITB briefcase.
It started with the Renee Young conducting an in-ring interview with the SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair regarding the Women’s Royal Rumble. Flair said she was proud of all the women for making history but confessed that for the first in her career, she wishes she wasn’t champion. She wanted to be standing in the ring, squaring off against all the legends from Sunday night to see she was able to hold her own.
Flair then discussed the moment she shared the ring with the Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss, first-ever Women’s Royal Rumble winner Asuka and arrival of Ronda Rousey. Come WrestleMania, Flair says she will walk in as champion but questioned who will be facing her across the ring.
This brought out the Riott Squad who had a bone to pick with Flair.
Ruby Riott suggested that Flair forget about Asuka and Rousey and hear herself – she is as egotistic as her father Ric Flair. Riott continued by saying she’s met versions of Charlotte at every stage of her life: impossibly talented, arrogant, entitled and unoriginal.
There’s only one Ruby RIott while Charlotte Flair is just a cheap imitation of her father. The Riott Squad then entered the ring, where Riott said that Charlotte Flair’s time was over and if it was up to her, she won’t even make it to WrestleMania.
Flair responded with the family’s signature “Wooo”, which led to a three-on-one brawl. At first, Flair managed to fend herself but the numbers game eventually turned in favor of the Riott Squad, all ending with Riott landing the Riott Kick on Flair.
As the stable headed to the back, Carmella’s music hit and she ran in the ring with a referee to try and cash in her Money in the Bank briefcase. However, before the official bell could ring to start the match, Flair dodged a running dropkick from Carmella, which instead knocked the referee to the outside. A frantic Carmella then retreived her MITB briefcase and heads to the back stating “not tonight”.
Later in the night, Carmella explained in an interview that she was just showing Flair that she could strike at any time.
