This week’s Raw started off with some unfortunate news.
Rhea Ripley is not medically cleared to compete at the upcoming Money in the Bank event for the Raw Women’s Championship. The champion, Bianca Belair, broke the announcement to kick off Raw before confirming a Fatal 5-way to determine the replacement for Ripley. In the match were Becky Lynch, Asuka, Liv Morgan, Carmella, and Alexa Bliss.
Carmella would come out with the win after a superkick to Morgan. With Asuka and Lynch neutralized on the outside, Bliss went for Twisted Bliss on Morgan. Morgan got the knees up but still took some of the blow before Carmella would come in to deliver her kick to get the pin and the victory.
This has become dejavu booking as Carmella was Bayley‘s replacement against Bianca Belair last year for the SmackDown Women’s Title. Bayley went out right before the planned “I Quit” match with Belair which was canceled. Carmella took on Belair last year on the SmackDown before Money in the Bank event. This year they will battle at the event on July 2 with the Raw Women’s Title on the line.
After the match, Lynch continues to be fuming about not getting a championship match. Adam Pearce reminded her that prior to the Fatal 5-way she was set to face Asuka in a qualifying match for Money in the Bank. Pearce confirms that the match is still on and will take place later in the night.
As for Ripley, it was not confirmed on Raw why she was not medically cleared. She did have an injury to her teeth but it is unknown if that is what pulled her from this match. Belair did hint that they will have their match at a later time.
