Both Women’s Championships stay intact at Extreme Rules

Extreme Rules is now in the books as WWE heads towards the biggest event of the summer. SummerSlam will take place on Aug. 11 and after tonight’s pay-per-view, new challengers appear to be on the horizon.

Both Becky Lynch and Bayley retained their respective championships at Extreme Rules. Bayley had to face both Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross in a 2-On-1 Handicap match.

Bliss and Cross did a nice job throughout the first half of the match dominating the champ. Bayley was able to throw Cross into the barricade, but Bliss counters with knocking her into the steel steps head first. They used quick tags to keep Bayley down.

Unfortunately for the best buddies, their numbers game wouldn’t benefit them as much as they had hoped. Bayley was able to get a double submission on both Cross and Bliss. Cross was locked in a leg-lock whereas Bliss was caught in a crossface. Both ladies were able to get out of the submission holds. In the end, the scrappy Bayley retained her title by hitting an elbow from the top rope on Cross for the pin.

There was no dissension between Cross and Bliss as they comfort each other in the ring. Bayley stood on the stage at the top of the ramp holding her title up high.

With the rumor that Sasha Banks may turn up at tonight’s event, many fans waited with bated breath to see if she would return and attack Bayley. This didn’t happen. It does appear that Bayley may be finished with Bliss and Cross in order to move on to a new opponent for SummerSlam.

Now for the RAW Women’s Championship. It was the Mixed Tag Team Winners Take All Extreme Rules match. That for sure is a mouthful. Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins had their titles on the line against Lacey Evans and Baron Corbin.

It had some good spots that included several weapons. Both teams used kendo sticks and steel chairs to their advantage. It was the power couple however that capitalized on the tables as they both put their opponents through tables by leaping off the second rope and the ring post.

There were times where both teams showed their dominance, but the end was written after Corbin hit the End of Days on Lynch. She rolled out of the ring and was laid out on the outside of the ring for the remainder of the match. This infuriated Rollins who went crazy with the kendo stick on his opponent. After executing several stomps, Rollins pins Corbin to retain his title and Lynch’s title.

Unfortunately for Rollins after the match, Brock Lesnar cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase and won the Universal Title. Becky Lynch, however, is still your RAW Women’s Champion.

Based off of the initial rules, Evans can no longer face Lynch for her title because she lost the match. As a result, just like Bayley, Lynch will have a new opponent for SummerSlam.
