Charlotte Flair beats Asuka and the Trish Stratus women’s title record

Twelve days before Charlotte Flair wrestles in the main event of WrestleMania, she has captured the SmackDown Women’s Championship from Asuka in an impromptu title match.

In the first hour of SmackDown Live, Asuka and Charlotte were scheduled to compete, but unexpectedly, the match was announced as a title match. The two sparred for several minutes and seemed to be evenly matched. In the match’s final moments, in an ending that echoed their WrestleMania 34 match, Asuka tapped out to the Figure Eight. Only this time, rather than retain, this win earned The Queen her eighth Women’s Title win.

Previously, Charlotte had tied Trish Stratus‘s reign for seven titles at SummerSlam 2018. Now, after tonight, Charlotte has more Women’s Championships under her belt than any other woman in WWE history.

As of now, the state of the SmackDown Women’s Title match – as well as its Fatal Four Way #1 contender’s match that was scheduled for earlier tonight – is up in the air. Tune in to Diva Dirt for further updates.
