It was reported as early as last week that Becky Lynch vs Ronda Rousey was a lock for the main event of WrestleMania 35. As quickly as the report was released, new reports are emerging that plans have changed.
In his latest Wrestling Observer Radio appearance, Dave Meltzer mentioned that as of now, Charlotte Flair is locked in and expected to join Lynch and Rousey in the main event of Mania. Of course, as we all know, plans change on a dime all the time in WWE, but for the time being at least, it looks like we’re looking at a Triple Threat for the Raw Women’s Championship.
Meltzer also made sure to mention that the Raw Women’s Championship match is not yet a lock to be the main event of WrestleMania. It will be viewed as a main event, yes, but as far as the match going on last, it may not be the main event.
Big Dave pointed out that Vince McMahon likely won’t decide on which match will go on last until the week of the big show. Right now, it’ll either be the Women’s Triple Threat or Brock Lesnar vs Seth Rollins for the Universal Championship.
We’re sure a lot of fans are not too happy with either piece of news. This is a situation that is very reminiscent of what we saw going into SummerSlam last year where people believed Charlotte was being shoehorned into the Women’s Title match because of her last name.
Add to the fact that fans would be crushed to see the Women’s Title match not headline WrestleMania. A huge selling point for this year’s WrestleMania has been the idea of women truly main eventing the show for the first time ever. To see them not go on last would be a major disappointment.
Tune into Diva Dirt going forward as we continue to provide updates regarding the state of WrestleMania 35’s main event.
