As previously reported, Charlotte Flair was looking for someone to face at SummerSlam that will take place on Aug. 11. It was rumored that it would be a Hall of Famer as her opponent and Trish Stratus‘ name was heavily mentioned. As of tonight’s SmackDown Live, the match was made official.
Stratus was announced over the weekend to be appearing on tonight’s SmackDown as part of Jerry Lawler’s King’s Court segment. Lawler referenced that she was not present at the RAW Reunion last week. He asked her if she, much like the alums that were at the reunion, want to have that “one more match.” She confirmed that she will probably always want to have another match but she is a mother now.
Charlotte Flair’s music hits and the Queen makes her way to the King’s Court in the ring. Flair spends the majority of the segment mocking Stratus for using the fact that she is a “mother” as an excuse for not having another match. Flair continues to claim that she is the best of all era’s and a trailblazer. She challenges Stratus to a match at SummerSlam.
Stratus answers by stating she respects Flair as a competitor and a performer, however at the moment she is just being a “bitch.” She makes the Queen understand without women like her there would be no trail to blaze. She cites women such as Lita, Jacqueline, Ivory, and Beth Phoenix as those that were trailblazers for today’s talent.
Trish confirms that she accepts Flair’s challenge and the two will face at SummerSlam.
