Clash At The Castle Preview And Predictions: 09.03.22

The next WWE premium live event Clash at the Castle takes place this Saturday on Sept. 3. This event marks the first time in 30 years that WWE will be putting on a major stadium event in the UK.

Booked for this event are two women’s matches that will showcase the top talents from both Raw and SmackDown. The matches are as follows:

Liv Morgan (c) vs. Shayna Baszler – SmackDown Women’s Championship

Asuka, Alexa Bliss, and Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair vs. Bayley, Dakota Kai, and IYO SKY

The Liv Morgan and Shayna Baszler feud started when Baszler won a gauntlet match to make herself the number one contender. Morgan was coming off of a controversial win against Rousey at SummerSlam and with Rousey suspended as part of her storyline, this opened up a new challenger for Morgan. Enter the Baszler from the past.

Since winning the gauntlet match, Baszler has been back to showing her ruthless side. The side that brought her to success in NXT. Morgan had received the upper hand during the contract signing but Baszler got some payback with an attack on Morgan after the champ successfully defeated Shotzi a couple of weeks ago.

Now who will end up walking out of Cardiff as the SmackDown Women’s Champion?

Predictions –

Nick – Realistically this one could go either way, however, I really don’t think that Liv is going to drop the title just yet. Not quite sure where they would go with her after this event, but maybe a rematch between her and Baszler at Extreme Rules? All eyes will be on how this match ends though, so I am curious to see if they have Morgan get a clean victory or if perhaps her controversial wins are going to continue. Winner: Liv Morgan

Colby – This new feud has cooled off compared to the first week or two since Shayna was established as the next challenger. Nevertheless, this looks to be the reboot Baszler has needed since her last major title match at WrestleMania 36. Liv winning the title was very refreshing for the division, but her booking hasn’t quite lived up to expectations. The champ will make for a great babyface in peril for the dastardly heel that’s on the cusp of reliving her former glory. Pull the trigger on Baszler and let’s see what unfolds. Winner: Shayna Baszler

Gary – This is a tough one. Not for who should win. Liv Morgan is not ready to lose the title. What’s tough is how they pull it off. I feel like she needs a clean win for sure but I hope it doesn’t come at the expense of Shayna, I’m not sure if Ronda has also traveled over for the event but I hope she stays away from this one. Winner: Liv Morgan

Moving on to the Raw six-woman tag team match. Bayley returned at SummerSlam and brought with her Dakota Kai and IYO SKY. The trio unofficially known as Damage CTRL have been cementing their spot on the Raw women’s division ever since they showed up. More specifically targeting first the Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair. Belair was able to get the back up from Becky Lynch at SummerSlam but the former rival of Belair’s is now sidelined with an injury.

This created a spot for both Asuka and Alexa Bliss to step up and have Belair’s back. From this, a six-woman tag team match was booked for the upcoming premium live event. Kai and SKY were also in the finals of the Women’s Tag Team Tournament but were not able to capture the gold after a controversial ending had Aliyah pin Kai who was not the legal competitor.

With Kai and SKY coming out of this past week’s Raw with a loss, where does that leave them for Clash at the Castle?

Predictions –

Nick –This match could really steal the show if executed correctly. I think Damage CTRL picking up the win here could certainly open the doors for more feuds in the upcoming months including the expected Bianca vs. Bayley which has some unfinished business. My thought is will someone flip her as in Alexa turning on her team? Or both Alexa and Asuka turning on Bianca together to keep themselves as a tag team moving forward? So many variables. Damage CTRL needs to take this win though. Winners: Damage CTRL

Colby – This has been my favorite storyline since SummerSlam. The formation of Bayley, Dakota, and IYO provided a boost to WWE’s women’s division and added much needed intrigue in piecing a tag team division back together. We’ve only seen Bayley in the ring once since returning, so I’m excited to see her mix it up with all three of her babyface rivals here. If booked properly (and it likely will be under Triple H’s direction), I’ll go as far as to say this could be the best trios women’s bout in WWE since Evolution. Following their loss in the tag title tournament, Damage Control needs a big win to set up Belair’s next challenger. The heels are sweeping the women’s division on Saturday. Winners: Damage CTRL

Gary – This will be a strong match that I think will catapult the trio of Bayley, SKY, and Kai to the top of RAW and for that reason, they need to win. I predict Bayley getting the victory and ideally it will be over Bianca! Winners: Damage CTRL

Clash at the Castle will steam live from Cardiff, Wales on Saturday, Sept. 3 at 1 PM ET. Check back in with Diva Dirt for a Clash at the Castle Discussion Post.
