The countdown to this year’s WrestleMania is in full swing. WrestleMania 41 takes place on the weekend of April 19 and 20. 52 matches in the history of WrestleMania include women. Diva Dirt will countdown two matches daily to rank all 52 leading up to this year’s event.
We have reached numbers 46 & 45.
46. WrestleMania 26 –
Alicia Fox, LayCool, Maryse, and Vickie Guerrero def. Beth Phoenix, Gail Kim, Kelly Kelly, Eve Torres, and Mickie James
Man, this was bad. The match with all of these talents (and Vickie) lasted only 3 and a half minutes and the majority of the match was them teaming up on Vickie and the other half was every woman hitting one move. This match had two champions in it, Michelle McCool as the Women’s Champion and Maryse as the Divas Champion. There was no need for this match, at all. If they wanted to have something funny for Vickie to do, it could have been done with just a regular tag team match.
Vickie would get the pin on Kelly and it was a heck of a botch. First, Vickie executed the worst frog splash in history. I get this was an homage to her husband and I bless them for that thought, but man, this was just no. Then, Kelly’s shoulders were up when they probably shouldn’t have been which had to have the referee redo the count.
I wish this match never existed.
45.5. WrestleMania 6 –
Sapphire & Dusty Rhodes def. Queen Sherri & Randy Savage
View on WWE.com
Disclaimer: When making this list, I accidentally looked over two matches, both ironically being mixed/intergender. So I have added them in as a “.5” just because we are already into the list and I also didn’t want to omit them. The last one came in at # 47.5.
This was a really fun match, especially for Sapphire not being a wrestler. She also got to pick up the win and pin a former champion in that of Sherri, which was a big deal, and received a big pop from the crowd. This was the first mixed tag team match in WrestleMania history.
Miss. Elizabeth was also involved in the match to help Sapphire and Dusty win. This is what a mixed tag team match should feel like. The women really were showcased here.
The only thing I hated with this was the commentary who would go on to call Sapphire fat the entire time.
45. WrestleMania 15 –
Sable (c) def. Tori – WWF Women’s Championship
Personally, I enjoy this match, but it honestly can’t be put too much higher on this list. In fact, although this came after another Sable match (which will come later), I think she did well in her first match at WrestleMania 14 (in a mixed tag team). What was good about this was it did introduce the audience to new women. This was Tori’s first match (having a Mania match as your debut match is huge), and this was the debut appearance of Nicole Bass. Bass helped Sable earn the victory. As a Tori fan, I wish they would have eventually given her a win over Sable for the title later on.
