The countdown to this year’s WrestleMania is in full swing. WrestleMania 41 takes place on the weekend of April 19 and 20. 52 matches in the history of WrestleMania include women. Diva Dirt will countdown two matches daily to rank all 52 leading up to this year’s event.
We have reached numbers 48 & 47.
48. WrestleMania XX –
Playboy Evening Gown Match: Torrie Wilson & Sable def. Miss. Jackie & Stacy Keibler
Watching this match back for this list, the match itself wasn’t bad considering this timeframe. However, much like the Playboy Pillow Fight Match (that has already made this list), this match turned into something different and that was morseo a bra and panties match, with the ladies already stripping down to them to start the match.
Anything of this type of match during this time is never going to rank high for many reasons. It did what it was meant to do during the time it was meant to do it. They all looked great though!
47.5. WrestleMania X –
Luna Vachon & Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Doink & Dink the Clown
Disclaimer: When making this list, I accidentally looked over two matches, both ironically being mixed/intergender. So I will be adding them in as a “.5” just because ws are already into the list and I also don’t want to omit them.
Another gimmicky, comedy, type of match (there certainly is a pattern of these from early WrestleMania’s when it comes to the women). For what it was, it was fine. Luna is a WrestleMania winner (her other match that she loses has yet to make this list). So, in that regards, this was good for her. However, what I found odd was that this was considered a mixed tag and not an intergender, as if Dink wasn’t a man but could only wrestle with Luna?
47. WrestleMania 28 –
Kelly Kelly & Maria Menunos def. Beth Phoenix & Eve Torres
This was a hard watch. Now, I know Maria isn’t a wrestler, but they had this excuse about her bruised/injured ribs as to why she was dominated during her part of the match. They covered it up by having Eve do “more damage” to them. Maria laying on the mat for the majority of this over six-minute match was excruciating to sit through. Honestly, I just wish they would have put in an actual wrestler in Maria’s place. I never fully understood, and still don’t, these celebrity inclusions. I know it is to draw more eyes to the product but still. It wasn’t until recently that the celebrities such as Bad Bunny took the time to train and actually put on a quality match. And yes, we will see where Snooki lands on this list.
Beth was also the Divas Champion in this. She couldn’t have just had a singles match against Kelly? Positive note is that Kelly’s gear was great!
Check back in with us here at Diva Dirt tomorrow for numbers 46 and 45 as the countdown continues!
