Dirt from Down Under: The Latest Australian Wrestling News & Results

We always hear about independent wrestling in the USA, but what about those oft-forgotten countries… like Australia? Here are the latest happenings in the Australian wrestling scene, including recent results and upcoming events you can attend:

November 19th, 2011 – NAW (Mulgrave, VIC): Nikita Naridian retained her Women’s Championship over Vixsin and Lowzen in a triple-threat Street Fight match

November 20th, 2011 – AWF (Fairy Meadow, NSW): Mighty Mel def. Selene and Charlene West-Dee

November 25th, 2011 – NHPW (Medina, WA): Sara Del Rey and Chris Vice def. K.C Cassidy and Percy T

November 25th, 2011 – NWA Pro (Adelaide, SA): Shazza McKenzie def. Kellyanne English

November 26th, 2011 – AWF (Minto, NSW): Mighty Mel def. Charlene West-Dee

November 26th, 2011 – NHPW (Morley, WA): Sara Del Rey def. K.C Cassidy to become the #1 Contender for the IndyGurlz Australian Championship that Kellie Skater holds.

December 2nd, 2011 – PWA Australia (Liverpool, NSW): This was PWA’s last show at the Liverpool Masonic Center (which served as their home for over two years)… Jessie McKay kicked off the show by announcing she would commemorate how she started her career – by managing Mikey Broderick in his match against Mike Valuable… K.C. Cassidy also managed Valuable.

December 3rd, 2011 – MCW (Broadmeadows, VIC): Eliza Sway def. Shazza McKenzie… Sway attacked McKenzie after the bell until she was restrained by MCW staff.

December 3rd, 2011 – IPWA (Ashmore, QLD): At their IPW/MIW/WCWA ‘reunion’ show, Brandy Alexander was inducted into IPW Hall of Fame.

December 3rd, 2011 – AWF (Blacktown, NSW): Charlene West-Dee def. Mighty Mel; Selene beat Rachel Rose… Selene also joined forces with Mass Transit.

December 10th, 2011 – PWAQ (Chermside, QLD): Storm, Katie and Ethan Hunt def. Niki Nitro, Baby Devine and Dan Damage when Storm pinned Devine.

December 12th, 2011 – NAW (Albion, VIC): Canberra’s TJ Star became #1 contender to Nikita Naridian’s title after beating Vixsin… Naridian was on commentary for this match.

December 17th, 2011 – AWF (Minto, NSW): Selene def. Mighty Mel and Charlene West-Dee

January 7th, 2012 – IWA (Port Macquarie, NSW): Shazza McKenzie def. Harley Wonderland

January 7th, 2012 – PROWL (Hemmant, QLD): Storm and Mystery def. Kelso Kahoniz and Mitch Cutting

January 8th, 2012 – IWA (Lemon Tree Passage, NSW): Harley Wonderland and Mikey Lord def. Shazza McKenzie and Adam Hoffman

January 11th, 2012 – IWA (Mt Pritchard, NSW): Shazza McKenzie def. Harley Wonderland and Aurora with the help of Adam Hoffman. They then proceeded to beat down Harley which lead to Mikey Lord making the save and the main event: Harley and Mikey def. Shazza and Adam Hoffman.

January 13th, 2012 – PWAQ @ Surf ‘n’ Ink Convention (Broadbeach, QLD): Session 1 – Niki Nitro def. Storm to retain the Women’s title; Session 2: Katie Hunt def. Storm

January 15th, 2012 – Newcastle Pro Wrestling (New Lambton, NSW): Harley Wonderland def. Mighty Mel

Upcoming Events

January 21st, 2012 – RCW (North Adelaide, SA): RCW has announced that they will be holding a tournament to crown their first ever Women’s Champion… women’s wrestling has, for a long time, been a very prominent feature in their company so this was only inevitable… the tournament will span across four months with eight different competitors. In the first bracket is Savannah Summers vs. Nikita Naridian (debut) and Melody Summers vs. KC Cassidy (another debut). Kudos to RCW!

January 28th, 2012 – MCW (Thornbury, VIC):  Shazza McKenzie vs. Eliza Sway vs. Savannah Summers in triple-threat action

Other tidbits: It looks as though PWAQ’s second “Queen of the Warriors” tournament has been cancelled, with the company announcing a temporary hiatus until April… From February 15-18, Niki Nitro will join EPW India for a tour, wrestling UK’s Erin Angel… Shazza McKenzie will be touring America for a few months starting February – her first international match has been announced (vs. Simply DVyne at IndyGurlz in Lebanon, PA on March 10, 2012)… Much like future WWE developmental star Tenille, Nikita Naridian will also be temporarily relocating to Canada to attend Lance Storm’s Storm Wrestling Academy.
