It was announced on Wednesday night’s Dynamite that Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D will challenge current women’s Champion Hikaru Shida at Double or Nothing. The Women’s Championship match was the first official announcement to the Double or Nothing card, which is taking place at the end of this month.
Despite a rocky start with her heel turn and injuries Baker has undoubtedly proven to be the Queen of the AEW Women’s Division. Anytime Baker appears on screen, fans know that its money. The entertainment factor alone makes Baker the hot topic in AEW’s Women’s Division from her banter with Tony Schiavone to hard-hitting promos.
Additionally Baker has been on fire since her return to the ring. More recently she tore the house down with Thunder Rosa with the Lights Out main event that is sure to be talked about for years to come.
Having such an accolade precedes Baker’s reputation as a force to be reckoned with. All the signs are there for Baker to be crowned the next AEW Women’s Champion. But first, she has to defeat Hikaru Shida at Double or Nothing.
Shida is no one to sleep on, however. Her almost year-long reign has had its share of ups and downs but Shida has proven that she can lead the Women’s Division. Shida has been able to convey her matches with storytelling and facial expressions, selling her journey to the fans of AEW.
While this isn’t Shida and Baker’s first run in together, the stakes are now higher. Baker has been hard at work getting up to the top of the Women’s Division and is looking for that payoff. Baker is extremely focused and ready to take the AEW Women’s Championship from Shida.
Should Baker win the Championship at Double or Nothing, she will become the fourth woman to hold the AEW Women’s Championship. As the first woman to be signed by the company, that will be a full circle moment. There is no question that Baker deserves her own reign as AEW Women’s Champion. That may very well come at this year’s Double or Nothing.
