Elektra Lopez makes her NXT debut; Tag Team brawl leads to a number one contender match for next week

Franky Monet was poised to have the encore of her world premiere tonight. Prior to her heading to the ring, a new face graced our screens as Elektra Lopez made her NXT debut.

Lopez, formerly known as Karissa Rivera, was signed by WWE earlier in the year and had her class originally announced in February. In that class was Monet along with Gigi Dolin, Cora Jade, Zayda Ramier, and more. She has had previous matches for ROH and WWR. Lopez also played the part of Bobby Lashley’s ex-wife in the angle of the Lashley/Lana wedding.

Lopez ended up on the losing end of her debut as Monet delivered a massive forearm before hitting the Glam Slam to get the pin and the victory. Monet also continues to meddle in with The Robert Stone Brand hinting at her wanting Aliyah and Jessi Kamea to dump Robert Stone.

Speaking of The Robert Stone Brand, they had a match this week where they faced the new makeshift team of Io Shirai and Zoey Stark. Stark helped Shirai last week after she was getting attacked by the NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions – The Way.

Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell were at ringside to watch the match. After a rather competitive match between both teams, Shirai sealed the win after delivering a moonsault to Kamea. This left Stark and Shirai thinking they were next in line for a tag team championship match. NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez and Dakota Kai emerged claiming they were next in line and that Stark and Shirai can’t just show up and decide that they are next in line.

Former NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Shotzi Blackheart and Ember Moon then came out from the back to throw their names in the ring as well. The Way ended up backing away from the situation which allowed the other three teams to brawl in the ring. Samoa Joe then brought out security in order to separate the teams to restore order.

Next week, we will see Stark & Shirai vs. Gonzalez & Kai vs. Moon & Blackheart in a number one contender match. The winners will face the champions at The Great American Bash on July 6.

A second match was added for next week in the form of a Mixed Tag Team. Mercedes Martinez was being interviewed backstage where she was told about this upcoming bout. She says she can get down with the match but she doesn’t make friends very easily in order for her to find a male partner.

Xia Li then attacked Martinez from behind which led to Boa pointing and yelling at Martinez. Jake Atlas shows up and knockouts out Boa. Atlas helps up Martinez and announces himself as her partner. Team Pride vs. Tian Sha is set.
