With Ember Moon‘s tag team partner (Shotzi Blackheart) being out of commission from an attack a few week’s back, she understands that she is at a disadvantage heading into TakeOver: In Your House. The event takes place this Sunday, June 13, and Moon is challenging Raquel Gonzalez for the NXT Women’s Championship.
On last night’s NXT, Moon battled Dakota Kai in which the match ended in disqualification. Just as a recent encounter between Kai and Mercedes Martinez, this match between her and Moon ended without a clean finish. Gonzalez once again inserted herself after a tough fight to deliver a big boot. Moon was heading up top to deliver the Eclipse and possibly put Kai away, but the champion delivered the boot causing the bell to ring.
After the match, Moon came back in the ring to attack Gonzalez as she was checking on Kai. Even though Moon didn’t have the numbers advantage she was still able to hit the Eclipse on Gonzalez and then grabbed the title. She laid the championship belt down on the champion as an exclamation point before In Your House this weekend.
Io Shirai made her return to NXT this week. The former NXT Women’s Champion hasn’t appeared on TV since she had an encounter with Franky Monet on the April 20 episode of NXT. At that time she did explain she was going to take some time away.
She was introduced back by Poppy who appeared last week as well. The singer had a run in with NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion Candice LeRae last week and made Indi Hartwell leave in tears this week. She was caught hugging Dexter Lumis after he gave her a drawing. Hartwell saw this and left in tears.
LeRae made her way out to the ring by herself to call out Poppy. Poppy appeared and stated that she doesn’t wrestle, however, she knows someone who does. Io Shirai then made her way to the ring and unleashed on LeRae. The tag champ then retreats up the ramp.
Another match booked for this Sunday’s TakeOver event is Xia Li vs. Mercedes Martinez. The two had a fight this week prior to Martinez taking on Amari Miller (in her debut). Miller, formerly known as Camron Clay, stood in the ring waiting as Martinez was attacked by Li prior to the match. Once Martinez was able to ward off Li and catch her breath, she demanded the match to start.
Martinez made short work of Miller and within seconds picks up the win to further deliver a message to Li. Miller took to Twitter afterwards to thank Zayda Ramier for her boost of confidence she provided and soak up her first appearance in the ring.
