Erica Porter on loyalty to WOW and “cutting the cancer”

Erica Porter, known as Jungle Grrrl at Women of Wrestling (WOW), has never wanted to be a valet, or just a side character; she’s always wanted to be the story.

Kristen Ashly of Diva Dirt got to sit down and speak with Porter about her introduction into the wrestling industry, why she chose to stick with WOW, and her thoughts on breaking into the indies, being a badass, and gratitude as “homegrown WOW”.

Porter talks briefly on what it means to her to be “homegrown WOW” and how she came to the promotion.

Porter talks about being “homegrown WOW”.

For Porter, part of the reason she chose WOW was because she never wanted to be a valet; she wanted to be the story, “or nothing at all”. Porter shares her beliefs that looks will fade, but how being a “badass is forever”.

A lot of the women of WOW explain how loyalty to promoter David McLane is easy, and that the culture in the company is something they are proud of. Porter echoes this sentiment, stating that in the past there has been “cancer in the company”, and how important it is to remove the women who don’t share the same values.

Porter spent some time away from WOW in the independent circuit, wrestling for Ultimate Pro Wrestling and Impact Zone Wrestling. The legend shares how isolated WOW really is from the rest of the wrestling industry, how lucky the WOW women are, and how hard she had to fight to earn any respect.

On top of respect, Porter values being treated as an athlete, and taken seriously. The WOW veteran discusses her belief that women’s wrestling was taken seriously when promotions started to treat women’s wrestling seriously.

Currently, Jungle Grrrl can be seen weekly on WOW fighting for a chance at a second championship reign against the current title holder, Tessa Blanchard, and The Beast, who simply won’t bow out of the fight.

Watch WOW Friday nights on AXS TV, starting at 9 p.m. EST. Check back with Diva Dirt for more interviews and exclusives with the Superheroes of WOW.
