During IMPACT’s Turning Point event, a huge announcement was made for an upcoming match at Hard to Kill.
IMPACT’s next big pay-per-view will be taking place on Jan. 8 and what better way to start off a new year with a first for the Knockouts division. The Knockouts will compete in their first-ever Ultimate X Match.
For those unfamiliar with an Ultimate X Match, this type of match has taken place for IMPACT/TNA since 2003. Ultimate X generally involves three or more wrestlers with the ring set having two cables that are connected to metal structures from the four corners of the ring. The cables cross in the middle of the ring to form an X.
Similar to a ladder match, the prize of the match is hung in the middle where the cables cross. The first wrestler to grab the prize (generally a championship belt) wins the match. This match is mostly used for the X-Division Title and also has been used to determine the number one contender.
The winner of this Knockouts Ultimate X match will become the number one contender for a future Knockouts World Title shot. At the time of this writing, the participants have not been announced.
At Turning Point, Mickie James retained her Knockouts World Championship against Mercedes Martinez. After the match, Deonna Purrazzo rushed to the ring and viciously applied the Venus De Milo to James while declaring her rematch for the title at Hard to Kill.
The rest of the championships held by the Knockouts stayed put at this event. Jordynne Grace retained against Chelsea Green while The IInspiration kept the tag titles over Decay during their rematch.
The next IMPACT Plus event takes place on Dec. 18 and it will be Throwback Throwdown II.
