Flashback Match Friday: SmackDown Women’s Battle Royal 11.27.18

Nearly four years ago in the land of opportunity on SmackDown Live, a nine-woman Battle Royal took place. The winner went on to be added to the first-ever women’s TLC match which was for the SmackDown Women’s Title. Already in the title match was the champion at the time Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair.

The women in the match included: Carmella, Mandy Rose, Sonya Deville, The IIconics, Zelina Vega, Lana, Asuka, and Naomi. The Battle Royal has garnered 3.4 million views on WWE’s YouTube channel.

In the end, it came down to Sonya Deville and Asuka after Deville eliminated Naomi. With both Lynch and Flair looking on from ringside to see who the third woman in their match would be, Deville and Asuka battled on the ring apron. Mandy Rose tried to help her then-partner by pulling down Asuka but to no avail.

Both women connected one another with a kick which made them both fall down to the apron. Both made their way back up with Deville charging towards Asuka who delivered a knee to knock Deville to the ground below. Asuka won putting herself in a historic match as she was one of three who first participated in a women’s TLC match.

Asuka would go on to win the TLC match in December 2018 and win her first (and so far only) SmackDown Women’s Championship. That full match can also be seen below and it has 9.5 million views on WWE’s YouTube channel.
