Rumblings of a former Divas Champion participating in the Mae Young Classic II began emerging last week and now WWE has confirmed the first participant for the MYC.
ESPN has revealed Kaitlyn will return to the ring this summer to participate in the tournament.
WWE had this to say about the announcement:
“Rising to fame in 2010 when she won Season 3 of NXT, which was a competition series among WWE rookies at the time, Kaitlyn quickly became a staple of what is now known as the WWE Women’s division.
With an extensive background in bodybuilding and power lifting, Kaitlyn used her remarkable strength and explosiveness to conquer opponents. She reached the summit of the division in January 2013 when she defeated Eve to capture the Divas Championship in her hometown of Houston on the 20th Anniversary of Raw. Kaitlyn held the title for 153 days before losing it to one of her greatest rivals, AJ Lee.”
After revealing she struggled with alcohol dependence last year, Kaitlyn, real name Celeste Bonin, found her way back to the ring as a therapeutic way to overcome her demons. She returned to the squared circle in February for Coastal Championship Wrestling in a winning effort against Rachael Ellering.
She is also the CEO and founder of Celestial Bodiez, a women’s fitness apparel company.
Mae Young Classic II tapings will take place on Wednesday, August 8th and Thursday, August 9th from Full Sail Live in Orlando, Florida.
