AEW has officially announced that Hikaru Shida will defend her Women’s World Championship against Penelope Ford at Fyter Fest. Fyter Fest will be taking place a few weeks and be over the course of two nights. It will be on July 1 and July 8. It will be broadcasted as a two-part special during the normal Dynamite air time on the TNT Network.
Shida became champion at Double or Nothing in May when she defeated Nyla Rose. That match was a no disqualification and no count-out bout that took both women to their limits.
Ford earned this title shot from picking up a pin on Shida during their tag team match last week on Dynamite. The match had Ford and Rose team up against Shida and Kris Statlander. Kip Sabian would get involved as he grabbed the leg of Shida. Statlander took him out with a suicide dive. Meanwhile, while the referee was distracted, Ford clocked the champion with the title. Ford hits a fisherman’s suplex to get the three count.
