Leading up to the historic main event Iron Man match between Bayley and Sasha Banks at NXT TakeOver: RESPECT, we’re taking a look back at other moments in which WWE Divas made history.
Today, we’re looking back at 2011, when Kelly Kelly helped Edge defend the World Heavyweight Title in a tag match on SmackDown.
Though only Dolph Ziggler had a shot at the title, Edge and Kelly faced off against three opponents: Dolph, Layla and Michelle McCool. Vickie Guerrero was also at ringside, putting the odds even more out of the babyfaces’ favor.
Kelly managed to win the match for her team, hitting Layla with a spear and getting the three-count. Thanks to her, Edge remained the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
