Hit or Miss?: October 13th – 19th

Welcome to Hit or Miss?! We’ll be examining the week’s news bits and deeming them hits or misses. For instance, did a Diva develop some backstage heat? That’s a miss. What about a Knockout match receiving the highest ratings of the show? That’s a hit. I’ll rate each story by stars (out of 5) – more stars for a hit, less for a miss. Got it? Let’s dive in..

Story #1: Ashley is a Rebel
Ashley Massaro has been outed as a frequent no-show at her recent public appearances. One promoter felt obligated to blast her carelessness online:

On behalf of myself and my company I would like to apologize to all the fans that anticipated seeing Ashley. As you all know, she pulled another one of her now classic no shows. If some of you weren’t aware Ashley was to appear late saturday night in Atlantic City with her agent and 3 other Playboy playmates. Her agent and the 3 playmates all showed and stayed in the Crowne Plaza, being inconvenienced because they had to sacrifice for the quote on quote wrestling star. As I’m writing this Ashley has still not returned a phone call to myself or her agent stating why she decided to not get on the plane Friday night. I urge fans and other promoters to not support her in the future and make her realize that it is a privilege to be hired to come to conventions not a right she has coming to her.

Looks like this is more than a one-time thing. Does Ashley just enjoy playing hooky? (See the original post.)
Rating:
Hit or Miss?: 1 star makes it a MISS. To be honest, the only reason this story got any stars at all was the amusement derived from it. The fact that she’s hardly a Diva Dirt favorite makes the news that much sweeter. If this is a recurring thing (which is sounds like), then there’s no excuse. Ashley is simply unprofessional and possibly immature in her actions, and hopefully she’ll soon be out of luck and unable to cash in on the mediocre name she made for herself in her short WWE tenure. Stop hiring her, folks.

Story #2: The Halloween Costume Contest returns (hide your children!).
This week, the matches for next week’s Cyber Sunday PPV were announced. Amongst the matches, two Diva events were listed:

• Choose which teams will go one-on-one in a Pick the Tag Team Match. Choose from one of the following matches:
– Tag Team Champs Cody Rhodes/Ted DiBiase vs. CM Punk/Kofi Kingston
– John Morrison/The Miz vs. Cryme Tyme
– Jamie Noble/Mickie James vs. William Regal/Layla
To vote for Jamie Noble & Mickie James vs. William Regal & Layla, TEXT 3 to 44993.

• Beth Phoenix, Divas Champion Michelle McCool, Brie Bella, Candice Michelle, Eve, Jillian, Katie Lea Burchill, Kelly Kelly, Layla, Lena Yada, Maria, Maryse, Natalya, Tiffany, Victoria & Mickie James will compete in a Halloween Costume Contest. They’ll show off their creativity and fans will vote for the best costume.

So, in all likelihood there could be two Diva events in one night. That is, if you’re willing to part with a buck a pop to vote for Mickie and Layla’s match. (See the original post.)

Hit or Miss?: 3 stars makes it a HIT. It’s always nice to see Diva involvement on a PPV, but it’s highly likely that Mickie and Layla’s match won’t be voted in. Therefore, all we’ll have is a costume contest. And, if last year’s contest is to be any indicator, it will be pretty lame. There’s always a chance that there could be entertaining and creative costumes, but I’d be willing to bet my life’s savings (take all $20 of it, I don’t care) on the fact that the majority of them will be cliche and trashy shit like Catwoman or “sexy” angels. Talk about overdone!

Story #3: Ashley might land another job after all!
Former WWE Diva Ashley Massaro had recently been teasing a big surprise for her fans, and this week left a clue that’s as plain as the tattoos on her face awkward back-arm-elbow area:

So I know from my last blog you guys are wanting to know about the big ole secret ;o) well youll find out soon enough I promise…and in the mean time, I can give you a little hint at a piece of wonderful news I got the other day. I’ll give you a few guesses. Heres your hint, k….it was awesome that I had an opp to do it last time and I loved it…..n….it starts with a capital P

You thinking what I’m thinking? Looks like either Ashley’s becoming one of Hef’s bunnies or she’s back on the prostitution gig. Hey, it’s a living! (See the original post.)
Rating:
Hit or Miss?: 1/2 a star makes it a MISS. Talk about cashing in on your past “glory”. Frankly, I’m just surprised that she (might) be worthy of another cover. She wasn’t that big of a celebrity back when she originally posed in 2007, and even less so now. Is Playboy that desperate? I think, from what we’ve heard, Ashley is that desperate, but it takes two to tango. Will we be seeing Ashley’s good again? One thing’s for sure: I’d be avoiding it at all costs.

Story #4: Karen and TNA headed for splitsville.
On the heels of rumors last week, Karen Angle has expanded it looks like she’s officially done with the company. She’s currently taking bookings with independent federations and conventions – a tell-tale sign that someone’s up the creek without a paddle. (See the original post.)
Rating:
Hit or Miss?: 1 star makes it a MISS. From what TNA fans have told us, she won’t be necessarily missed. She didn’t contribute much to the company, but it is a rather sudden loss. The real mystery is why she’s now looking for work with independent companies. Kurt was her single reason for being involved in wrestling, so now that she’s on her own, why is she sticking with it? I know she has to make a living to support her children, but there are better (less demeaning) ways!

Story #5: Maria heads to Fashion Week.
This week’s WWE.com Diva Dish spoke with Maria about her plans to attend L.A.’s Fashion Week:
WWE’s fashionista Diva is headed to Los Angeles Fashion Week. While Maria won’t be strutting down the catwalk, she will be in attendance at several designers’ shows:

“I think I’m seeing up to seven shows of different fashion designers this week. I can’t wait. It’s like a dream to be involved in these kinds of things for me. I love fashion. I love clothes,” she said.

“I know I’m going to be seeing Christian Audigier. I’ve worn his stuff and been in his stores – in L.A. there’s a billion of them. A lot of the guys wear him. So I’m really excited to see his show.”

Maria – a budding fashion designer who creates many of her in-ring outfits – told Diva Dish that to her, clothes are a statement.

“It’s something you can say without saying a word,” the SmackDown Diva stated.

Most of us here would agree with that last sentence, although the “word” in question is no doubt one of the four-letter variety. (Click to see more.)
Rating:
Hit or Miss?: 1 star makes it a MISS. Good for her for seeing the shows an all, but just the wording of it on WWE.com makes me laugh. If that girl thinks she’s anywhere near a fashion designer, she’s delusional. Her clothes make a statement, but it’s an overwhelmingly negative one. I’d like to see her explain her vision and why she thinks she’s got the goods to design. Hell, I’d like to see her show some of those high-end designers a few of her sketches. I’m sure they could all use a good laugh.
