Red Velvet is one the verge of the biggest match of her career. On next week’s AEW Dynamite, she teams with Cody Rhodes to take on Shaq and Jade Cargill.
Red Velvet sat down with Aubrey Edwards and Tony Schiavone to discuss everything about the big match. In the interview, she explains how she’s preparing mentally and physically for the match and filling-in for Brandi Rhodes.
“Mentally, I’m trying to get myself ready because it’s a big thing to not let myself get caught up in how big this match is going to be, or who’s in the match, or how much attention the match is going to get. I’m trying to really just mentally disconnect from all of that and just focus on the task at hand and that’s to put all that anger that I have built up towards Jade in the ring, to get that win and make a huge huge statement because a majority of the world is already thinking that I’m at a disadvantage due to the height, but that’s always the case with me. I think I’m very underrated and always put like an underdog but that just makes the story better in the comeback better, so I’m just trying to get myself all prepped up.”
Red Velvet knows that she will have to be at her best when she faces Cargill.
“She’s a great athlete. Body is impeccable so that’s the first thing people see, and they’re like, ‘Oh yeah you don’t stand a chance,’ but I’ll show them what I’m really about.”
Initially, Brandi Rhodes was to face Cargill in the match, but her pregnancy allowed Red Velvet to step in. Velvet felt the force of Cargill several times throughout the feud. She is excited to get in the AEW ring and shut her up finally;
“When I first found out about it I was definitely stoked, because this is the biggest match, to date, of my career so that was an excitement [factor]. I was definitely grateful for the opportunity, you know? They say when one door closes, one opens, and with Brandi stepping into the beautiful journey of motherhood, I think it was only right for me to step in and have her back because I was over the bullying and how they were getting on her because she was pregnant, the attacking, and then they attacked me so I just wasn’t going to stay quiet about it. I’m excited and I’m excited to finally shut Jade up because all I’ve seen her do is run her mouth so I’m kind of excited to see if she’s really going to throw down in the ring or what she’s about.”
Cargill teams with Shaq in her AEW debut against Red Velvet and Cody Rhodes on AEW Dynamite on March 3rd.
