What’s up Knockout fans? Welcome to this week’s Write-Up with me, Eleri. I’m back from merry ol’ Scotland and ready to get back on it! After a hectic day, I was excited to come home and finally get to watch this segment. Mickie James has long been a favourite of mine, so when I read what happened, I was mega happy. You’ll see what I mean… Let’s move on, shall we?
Last night’s Knockout action came in the form of a segment, rather than a match. We started off backstage with former Knockouts Champion, Velvet Sky, and she said she had a present for Mickie James. It was something Mickie was going to love and, in fact, so were all of us watching, too. As Velvet heads out to the ring, we cut to Mickie gussying up in the mirror. She’s talking to herself as far as I can tell, going on about how she doesn’t know what to expect but that’s why she loves Velvet. She’s just so thoughtful. Mickie looks at herself in the mirror, asks herself if she’s ready, then heads on out to meet her friend. I’ve a feeling this isn’t going to be what she expects.
Velvet is on her way to the ring when we come back. She has an envelope on her, and she states that there are some things up in the air that she’d like to clear up. Since losing the title, she feels her friendship with Mickie has been up in the air, too. On that note, she invites Mickie to the ring. The champ is happy to oblige. After all, there’s a present in it for her!
“Wow!” says Mickie. She’s overwhelmed with emotion and didn’t expect this.
“I may be Knockouts Champion,” she tells Velvet. “But you’re Knockout of the month!”
Yeah, because that’s better. Duh. Sure. I love this Mickie. I can practically see the sarcasm dripping from her in that one line. Lovely. We move on, and Velvet reveals what’s inside the envelope. It’s… Clearance! Velvet is cleared to wrestle by her doctor and, Mickie, she wants her rematch.
Mickie doesn’t look convinced. She tells Velvet to look again, to where it says the letter is dated for yesterday. Mickie says Velvet was cleared to wrestle yesterday, but today her knee still looks banged up. BAM! Mickie takes her down and slams her twice to the mat, head first! Velvet cries out but Mickie doesn’t stop there. The champ locks Velvet into a brand new – and might I add SICK LOOKING – submission move. Velvet is screaming, and so is Mickie.
Out come the refs, and Mickie lets her go. The champ leaves with her title, looking thunderous for a moment. She switches it up for a smile as she leaves her ‘friend’ in the ring though. Well well…
Thoughts: Short. Good. Surprising. I was pretty damn sure they were turning Mickie heel, but I didn’t think it would come this quickly. I loved it, especially that submission. Yowza. Not sure how much I’ll love a Velvet/Mickie feud but I’ll wait and see! Hopefully next week we’ll get a little more Knockouts action, like Mickie explaining herself, or even a match? We shall see, we shall see. And I’ll see you there!
