There is no surprise that NXT Women’s Champion, Io Shirai, walked away with a couple of awards for the year-end of NXT. She first won Female Competitor of the Year. Although she has been champion since June and has put on some match of the year nominees, she was in this category with a lot of talent. In addition to Shirai in the Female Competitor category, there was Rhea Ripley, Candice LeRae, Tegan Nox, Dakota Kai, and Kay Lee Ray.
Shirai winning this award put her into the Overall Competitor Award which was voted on during the show. She was up against Adam Cole who won Male Competitor of the Year. Rightfully so, Shirai took the big win as Overall Competitor of the Year! Shirai was not present so she accepted both awards on video.
The women’s roster was represented in most categories. The only other award that went to a female talent was Breakout Star of the Year. This was awarded to Shotzi Blackheart. She beat out the following: Pat McAfee, Damian Priest, Cameron Grimes, Dexter Lumis, Timothy Thatcher, Raquel Gonzalez, Santos Escobar, and Ilja Dragunov.
