Io Shirai & Zoey Stark are officially the next opponents for The Way’s (Candice LeRae & Indi Hartwell) NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships. The title match will take place at The Great American Bash on July 6. Shirai & Stark won this opportunity by winning a Triple Threat on this week’s NXT that involved NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez & Dakota Kai and Shotzi Blackheart & Ember Moon.
In an incredible performance by all six women, it came down to Shirai and Kai being the legal competitors. Shirai delivered a massive uppercut before going up top to hit her moonsault to get the pin and victory.
Shirai and Stark have only been a team for a short amount of time. Stark came to the rescue of Shirai after her return a few weeks back. She was falling victim to the numbers game when she was being attacked by The Way. Blackheart & Moon and Gonzlez & Kai took offense to the fact that this makeshift team was jumping the line. That’s what led to this match and Shirai & Stark have now earned their spot.
After their win, the new challengers were confronted by the NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions backstage. Candice LeRae warned Stark that after she and Shirai lose next week to watch her back as Shirai is a sore loser. Shirai reminded LeRae that she has never beaten her before and as a result, she and Stark will become the new tag team champions next week.
As for another potential future match, Sarray approached General Manager William Regal this week to ask for a match against Toni Storm.
