Before there was the black and gold championship belt that we came to recognize around the waists of Trish, Lita, Michelle McCool and others, there was this belt, last held by Madusa aka Alundra Blayze.
You perhaps best know this incarnation of the Women’s Title as being the very belt that Madusa infamously threw in a trash can on an episode of WCW Monday Nitro after defecting from WWF to WCW in the early stages of the Monday Night War in December 1995.
Madusa recently revealed that she is still in possession of the belt and revealed that she’d like to defend it against current WWE Divas Champion, Beth Phoenix. In fact, Madusa has continued to go and forth on Twitter with Beth in hopes of setting up a match between the two.
Posting an image of the old WWF Women’s Championship belt around her waist via Twitter tonight, Madusa teased Beth by writing: “Are u [sic] woman enough?”
So as you can see, folks, the old WWF Women’s Title is alive and well — and not in the depths of a waste dump as WCW would have had us believe!
