This week’s AEW Dynamite saw a rarity but a much-needed two women’s matches as the women’s division gains traction. The AEW Women Rankings are heating up with Red Velvet, Britt Baker, Nyla Rose, and Thunder Rosa all chasing for the top spot. The number one contender Tay Conti who sits at the top will be getting her title match next week against the champ – Hikaru Shida.
Tonight was a highly anticipated match between Jade Cargill and Red Velvet. Since Cargill first stepped in the ring she has had the fight ready for Velvet and Velvet hasn’t backed down. The match had a bit of an abrupt ending and could have lasted a few more minutes but it was solid.
Before Cargill could even get a chance to breathe as she made her way through the ropes, Velvet pounced. Velvet sticks with the offense for the most part including a series of punches and hitting roadhouse kick. The action quickly falls to the outside with Cargill first causing Velvet to hit a suicide dive driving her opponent into the barricade. Cargill then hits a fallaway slam sending Velvet over the barricade and into the women’s roster at ringside. This includes KiLynn King who took the brunt of it and has been by Velvet’s side as of late.
While Velvet tries to collect herself to get back to the ring, Cargill is gloating in the ring counting her abs. Cargill stays in control with a delayed vertical suplex. Moments later, Velvet hits a facebuster and a standing moonsault but only gets a near fall. Cargill ends the match by hitting Jaded for the pin.
The second match was in the typical spot on the show and as always could have been longer. Kris Statlander returned to in ring action for the first time in nearly a year as she is now back from injury. She faced indie start Amber Nova in Nova’s Dynamite debut.
The match is mostly in Statlander’s favor with her taking most of the offense. Nova did get in some forearms and kicks. After a roundhouse kick, Statlander delivered Super Nova on Amber Nova to get the pin for the win.
