Figure Four Weekly has pointed out that Kana has likely taken the name Asuka in tribute to legendary Japanese women’s wrestler Lioness Asuka. In the 80s, she wrestled as part of the tag team The Crush Gals, who are credited with being the most successful women’s tag team of all time.
Kana has tweeted about the change, saying that it marks her journey towards the future:
Starting today, KANA will be known as ASUKA
The name of ASUKA means future. Toward the future with those who never stop loving WWE! ASUKA
