Superstar Spectacle was a special event for WWE that aired on the WWE Network yesterday. It was an event to celebrate India’s Republic Day and witnessed the debut of several Indian talents.
For the women, a big debut of Sareena Sandhu took place as she teamed with Charlotte Flair to take on Bayley and Natalya. Sandhu got the pin for her team making it a successful first match with the company. In a report from PWInsider, it is being reported that the spot that Sandhu held in this match was originally planned for WWE’s first-signed female Indian talent Kavita Devi.
There was a vignette for Devi in which Michael Cole referred to her as a trailblazer. He then revealed that she would not be at the event due to a family emergency in India.
Speaking with Firstpost, Devi said the following about Superstar Spectacle:
“This is a huge event, especially for us Indians. We are expecting a lot of love and support from Indian fans. But due to some personal reasons, I might not be able to participate. India’s aspiring WWE wrestlers will get to rub shoulders with some of the best in the industry. That is what makes this event special.”
Devi has not had a match since July 2019 at an NXT house show against Io Shirai. She has since been out due to an injury. In 2018 she took part in the WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal as one of many women from NXT. That match was won by Naomi. She has participated in both Mae Young Classic tournaments. Both times she lost in the first round – 2017 to Dakota Kai and in 2018 to Kaitlyn.
