The NXT UK Women’s Championship was on the line in a 3-way match between Kay Lee Ray, Piper Niven and Toni Storm at NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool II.
The match saw high-risk moves, fast-paced action and near-falls a plenty in front of a ravenous UK crowd.
Lee Ray, Niven and Storm put on a fantastic showing that was easily one of, if not the best match the women of NXT UK have put on since the inception of the brand. The three wrestlers would go at each other hard all battling it out to become the queen of NXT UK.
Former NXT UK Women’s Champion, Storm would attack Lee Ray as soon the bell rang. The action would spill to the outside and Niven would hit Lee Ray with a dive through the ropes. Taking charge of the situation Niven would then smash both opponents with rolling sentons to the barrier and steel steps.
Back in the ring, all three women would hit big moves resulting in near-fall kick-outs and broken up pin attempts.
Lee Ray would slip to the outside and produce a steel chair from beneath the ring and take use it to choke her two grounded opponents. Lee Ray would take her villainy to new heights when she applied the chair over Storm’s neck and head and just as she was about to commit the violent assault, Niven would knock her flying across the ring to massive cheers from the fans.
Niven and Storm would throw Lee Ray out of the ring before Storm would hit a suicide dive followed by Niven hitting a cannonball dive off the apron. Lee Ray would return the favour by hitting an insane-looking somersault dive from the top turnbuckle.
The action would escalate from there as all three would try in vain to hit the move that would score them the winning pin.
Storm would head to the top to hit a frog splash on Niven, but Lee Ray would take her out with a vicious superkick before taking advantage of the situation and pinning the prone Niven for the hard-fought victory.
A truly excellent match and one definitely worth seeking out if you haven’t seen it already.
I would assume that this is Toni Storm’s last appearance for the UK brand as she was recently on NXT throwing her name into the hat to challenge for Rhea Ripley‘s title.
I don’t believe Kay Lee Ray and Piper Niven are finished with one another and if they can recreate the magic they had in ICW then we would be in for a treat.
NXT UK will be taping the next couple of weeks of TV tomorrow so keep a lookout for the reports coming this week.
