Kris Statlander vs. Riho is set for the AEW Women’s World Title

On this week’s Dynamite one of AEW’s newest signees, Kris Statlander defeated Britt Baker to earn a shot against Riho for the Women’s World Title. Statlander rushed her way up the AEW Power Rankings after picking up a couple wins against Bea Priestley and Hikaru Shida who was at the top of the rankings previously. This landed her at number two while Baker was at number one.

In what many feel is a head scratcher of a choice, the original thought process behind the power rankings was for the person automatically at number one to become the number one contender for the title. This was directed by the philosophy that the amount of wins matter.

They would square off this week which culminated into Statlander attempting to go for a discus elbow. Baker would counter out of this by applying the Lockjaw. Statlander powers out of it and reverse it into her cradle Tombstone which she calls The Big Bang Theory. That was enough to pick up the win and the number one contender spot.

After the match, Brandi Rhodes would make a second attempt in trying to convince Statlander to join The Nightmare Collective. After rejecting Rhodes’ offer, she was distracted by Awesome Kong and Melanie Cruise on the ramp. This provided enough time for Rhodes to poke at Statlander’s eye with her high heel shoe.

What are your thoughts on Kris Statlander becoming the number one contender? Does AEW’s Power Rankings make any logical sense? Would you like to see Statlander become the next champion? Leave your thoughts in the comment section below.
