Liv Morgan and Ronda Rousey met face-to-face on the July 22 episode of SmackDown. The two will battle one week from Saturday as they step in the ring together at SummerSlam. Rousey is betting on becoming a two-time champion whereas Morgan is determined to hold onto the first gold she has acquired in WWE.
The two women met backstage. Saying that she respects the champion, Rousey let Morgan know that once she becomes champion again she expects Morgan to shake her hand after their upcoming match. Despite Morgan being a “breath of fresh air,” Rousey says that she is Ronda Rousey and Liv Morgan is Liv Morgan.
Morgan responds claiming that she loves, wants, and needs the SmackDown Women’s Championship more than her challenger. She adds that she promises to shake Rousey’s hand after she beats her at SummerSlam. Rousey ends the segment by stating that Morgan has the most passion in the locker room, besides herself.
There were two planned women’s matches for this week’s show with one that continues to not happen week after week. First, the match that did happen was between Sonya Deville and Raquel Rodriguez. A backstage moment between Deville and Adam Pearce set up this bout.
Despite Deville having a solid showing against Rodriguez, it would be the Rodriguez to get the win. Deville thought she had the victory after a DDT. However, Rodriguez would land the Texana Bomb picking up the win.
In a Digital Exclusive, Deville accuses Pearce of continually stacking the deck against him including this impromptu match. She isn’t liking the bias that Pearce has been showing her.
Next, Aliyah vs. Lacey Evans didn’t take place……Again.
That’s right, Evans took to the ring to cut another promo. And although she had the crowd reaction where she wanted it, Evans would deliver a Woman’s Right to Aliyah once again and before leaving the ring.
Pearce has confirmed that next week we will finally get to see the match as Aliyah vs. Evans is booked once again.
Lastly, on SmackDown, Sofia Cromwell from NXT 2.0 has been called up to the main roster and will now be known as Maxxine Dupri. More on this can be read by clicking here.
On NXT: Level Up this week, Thea Hail was in action as she faced Brooklyn Barlow. Hail came out with the victory.
