On the Sept. 9 episode of SmackDown, Ronda Rousey became the number one contender to the SmackDown Women’s Championship after winning a Fatal 5-way Elimination bout.
The number one contender match would feature Rousey, Natalya, Xia Li, Lacey Evans, and Sonya Deville. The run time of the match wasn’t very long as Rousey quickly made Natalya tap out in the arm bar. Liv Morgan watched from high up in the crowd.
Moments later, Li and Evans both found themselves in submissions at the same time applied by Rousey and Deville. Both women tapped out simultaneously leaving Rousey and Deville as the last two competitors. Rousey went for Pipers Pit on Deville who countered and locked in a submission until the two spilled to the outside. Rousey threw Deville into the barricade to break the hold. The Baddest Woman on the Planet would submit Deville shortly afterward with an ankle lock.
Backstage after the match, Rousey would be congratulated by Shayna Baszler. Rousey says she knows that Baszler is upset over her loss to Morgan at Clash at the Castle. She added that what is better than winning is revenge.
Also on SmackDown, Toxic Attraction made their return after being removed from the Women’s Tag Team Title Tournament due to an injury sustained by Gigi Dolin. The team was on this week’s NXT 2.0 in action as well and lost to Nikki A.S.H. and Doudrop. Now they faced the tag team champions in a non-title bout.
The Women’s Tag Team Champions Aliyah and Raquel Rodriguez would spoil the return of Toxic Attraction. In the final moments of the match, Aliyah speared Dolin allowing Rodriguez to deliver the Texana Bomb on Jacy Jayne to get the pin and the win. The tag team champions will defend their titles this Monday on Raw against Damage CTRL’s Dakota Kai and IYO SKY.
Elsewhere on SmackDown, there was an eight-man tag team match between the teams of Street Profits and Hit Row vs. Maximum Male Models & Los Lotharios. During the bout, Maxxine Dupri hopped up on the apron to interfere. B-Fab pulled her down and the two would get into a verbal argument before Max Dupri would get in between them.
