Libre fans! Welcome to this week’s Lucha Underground Analysis. A slight delay this week as I have been sunning it up in Lisbon, Portugal for a short break. On the subject of somewhere warm, the temple was steamy and hot this week as Catrina step foot into the arena area for the first time since Grave Consequences. She accompanied Mil Muertes for his horrific Deathmatch against Fenix. Elsewhere, we caught up with Black Lotus and Sexy Star was the first sole female to take part in a sit-down interview with Vampiro.
We are treated to a Black Lotus sighting to kick off proceedings this week. I thought that she had left El Dragon Azteca‘s training ground last week yet it appears she hasn’t. On arrival to do some training (so it seems), she bumps into the man who has been tasked to watch her back, Chavo Guerrero. Chavo tells Lotus that if she wants revenge, do it the right way – in the ring. I suppose that would bypass a few lawsuits if she was to kill the so-called Matanza. More on him later.
According to Chavo, apparently the whole world will be watching (probably not if it involves him). Chavo says they have something in common; his Grandfather was there the day that Black Lotus’s parents were murdered.
DUN DUN DUN! The plot thickens.
Up next, we catch up with Sexy Star, who discusses her majorly personal feud with Pentagon Jr. Chatting to Vampiro, Sexy says that Pentagon is nothing but a bully. She says that when they square off once again next week, victory will be hers again. Sexy says that despite a Submission Match playing to Pentagon’s strengths (obviously as he has been snapping everyone’s arms off), he hasn’t seen the submission training that she has had. One way or another, this feud will be over.
Our last Luchadoras in the limelight are the mesmerizing Melissa Santos (who is killing it on the ring announcing by the way – love her!) and the mega-alluring Catrina. Catrina seemingly has a trance on her and Mil Muertes’s new henchmen, the Faces of Death. This match is such a recommended watch. Look out for the the insane spot on the roof of a locked room in the temple. Oh, and of course, another lovely Lick of Death.
Finally, we get another look at what fate may be waiting for Black Lotus. Due to The Crew losing their second chance at Trios Tag Team Title glory, Dario Cueto made one of them pay the price. The newer recruit, Bael bites the dust when his crew members feed him to Matanza. Cue lots of biting noises and blood squirting all over. So Matanza is a cannibal now as well as a murderer. Nice guy then.
Thoughts: As much as I can’t stand Chavo Guerrero, I do like that the show has added another layer to the backstory of the death of Black Lotus’s parents. Is Chavo lying though? I certainly wouldn’t trust him as far as I could throw him. Whilst I have enjoyed this story, I do feel that it is starting to drag now. However with Chavo getting involved plus Matanza claiming a new victim in Bael, I think the ball will start rolling a little faster now. I am desperate to see Angela in the ring again!
I am really looking forward to next week too to see Sexy and Pentagon lock masks once again in a Submission match. Despite saying that the feud will be over, I see Pentagon equaling the score between them leading to a final rubber match. Can that maybe happen in a cage? Thanks.
Catrina and Mil are darker than ever and I am loving it. Whilst I was initially confused with Catrina and what her character was doing, the writers have rectified this well after a few weeks of uncertainty. I honestly see Mil ending the season as the new Lucha Underground champion. He is a “homegrown” Lucha talent too in a way – as in, he isn’t like Johnny Mundo, Alberto El Patron or Hernandez who are playing more or less the same character that they have elsewhere. What a better way to end the season that to see Lucha Underground’s top seductress standing by the side of a new champion?
