The latest addition to WWE.com’s Alumni section is a controversial one: Alundra Blayze, also known as Madusa.
Madusa, who competed for the WWE in the early nineties, is controversial for defecting to WCW while she was the WWE’s Women’s Champion and proceeding to drop the belt in a garbage can live on WCW Nitro. Her alumni bio describes the incident in detail:
On the night of Dec. 18, 1995, Alundra Blayze walked onto the set of WCW’s Nitro with her WWE Women’s Championship in hand and proceeded to dump the title in a garbage can on live television.
At a time when WCW had the advantage over WWE in the storied Monday Night War, the incident was a cannonball through the front gates of Mr. McMahon’s crumbling empire. Not only had another one of his competitors aligned themselves with the competition, but a WWE title had been publicly disgraced.
Madusa has since retired from the ring and competes as a monster truck driver.
She continues to keep tabs on women’s wrestling, recently praising TNA’s Knockouts division and tweeting a snapshot of her in a familiar pose with the Women’s Title.
