Match to determine who will face Asuka set for next week

We finally have an answer to the question fans and pundits have been asking. Who will challenge Asuka for the SmackDown Women’s Championship? Sort of.

WWE confirmed via a WWE.com exclusive that there will be a fatal four-way to determine the number one contender next week.

Kayla Braxton made the announcement after SmackDown during a backstage interview with Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville. There has been miscommunication and tension between the two since Fastlane. Now they will face Carmella and Naomi separately in a fatal four-way for a chance to challenge Asuka at WrestleMania.

This is very reminiscent of how the SmackDown Women’s Championship match was announced for Fastlane. The brand’s women’s title hasn’t gotten the proper spotlight on television since Royal Rumble. There’s barely even a mention of the championship or the Empress of Tomorrow.

Still, there’s potential here to start building towards a storyline in the last two weeks before WrestleMania. Naomi and Carmella are both former champions with reasonable claims for a chance to regain the title. Moreover, this is an opportunity to build up Sonya as a new formidable challenger in a division in need of new matchups.

What do you think? Drop a comment below with who you would like to see become the number one contender next week.
