Melissa Coates, also known as “Super Genie” passes away

Diva Dirt is sad to report the passing of Melissa Coates also known as Super Genie. She passes away today just five days after her 50th birthday. Cauliflower Alley Club made the announcement of her passing.

Prior to her time in professional wrestling, Coates started with bodybuilding. She started her wrestling career in 2005 and was trained by Killer Kowalski. Coates promptly went to WWE developmental at the time in OVW. She was seen at the Backlash pay-per-view where she participated in Chris Masters’ “Master Lock Challenge.” While in OVW, she competed in the ring against such Divas as Mickie James, Jillian Hall, Beth Phoenix, and Melina.

Coates has also worked with various indie promotions including WSU, WXW and even did work with NWA. Since 2014 she has been managing Sabu which is where she obtained the Super Genie moniker.

In November 2020 a GoFundMe page was created for her in the need to cover medical expenses. She had suffered from many blood clots in her leg which were life-threatening. Surgery was needed which resulted in her left leg being amputated.

The wrestling community is starting to send their condolences on social media as they are hearing the news.

Below is a match that Coates had at MCW in 2010 with Mickie James and Mia Yim.

Diva Dirt sends our deepest condolences to the loved ones of Melissa.
