Mercedes Martinez hasn’t been seen in NXT since the beginning of September when she lost to Rhea Ripley in a steel cage match. Since then, Martinez was part of the stable RETRIBUTION on the main roster but was removed prior to her moniker being mentioned. She has been missing ever since….until tonight.
The return came when NXT Women’s Champion, Io Shirai, was waiting in the ring for Toni Storm to come out. Storm defeated Rhea Ripley last week and from this, she is ready to take the NXT Women’s Title from Shirai in the new year. Besides serving looks, Storm left Shirai on read after her music hit by not coming down to the ring. Instead, Martinez attacked Shirai from behind.
Martinez unleashed a vicious assault on the champion by throwing her into everything she could, including the announce table. Yes, actually thrown INTO the announce table.
Whether Martinez is working with Storm or is sending a message to Shirai on behalf of herself remains to be seen. Regardless of the motive, it is good to see Martinez back in NXT and perhaps 2021 will be her year.
