Mercedes Martinez made a huge statement in her official singles debut match for AEW on Rampage.
Since officially becoming All Elite to end her 2021, Martinez was the reason why Thunder Rosa never made it to the finals of the TBS Championship Tournament. Helping Jade Cargill, Martinez attacked Rosa in the semi-finals of the tournament costing Rosa a good chance at becoming an inaugural champion in AEW. Now, Rosa was attempting to finally get some revenge.
Rosa ended up picking up the win with an unusual call for AEW and that is by disqualification. Outside the ring, Martinez grabbed a lead pipe and clobbered Rosa over the head with it making the referee call for the bell. Martinez backed her way up the ramp after the match.
Post-match, Martinez was being interviewed backstage with a lead pipe in hand. The AEW Women’s World Champion Dr. Britt Baker along with Jamie Hayter and Rebel interrupted. Baker says that it was her that was behind Martinez being hired to take out Rosa because someone else (Hayter) wasn’t getting the job done. Mark Sterling may have handed the check to Martinez for helping out Cargill, but it was Baker that signed the check.
Baker is not happy that the match ended in disqualification and she wants Martinez to make sure that Rosa never beats her again.
A promo for Serena Deeb aired as well as a backstage segment between Kris Statlander and Leyla Hirsch. Hirsch attacked Statlander from behind with a chair before Red Velvet appeared to check on Statlander.
