It is being reported by Sean Ross Sapp from Fightful that Mercedes Martinez has been released by WWE. She is one of 12 names announced tonight as releases from the NXT brand. WWE has been releasing talent frequently since the week after WrestleMania in April.
Martinez is a 20-plus year veteran in the wrestling industry and she has spent the majority of her time with WWE on their NXT brand. She was signed in January 2020. She was called up briefly as part of the RETRIBUTION stable to RAW but quickly was removed from the group and returned to the black and gold brand.
During her time in NXT, she was at one time a member of the Robert Stone Brand before having a few chases for the title. She had battled Io Shirai and Toni Storm in a Triple Threat Match for the NXT Women’s Title at TakeOver: Vengeance Day. She also attempted to dethrone Raquel Gonzalez who is the current NXT Women’s Champion back in May.
Martinez’s last feud was against Xia Li and Tian Sha. She was last seen in a mixed-tag team match alongside Jake Atlas facing Tian Sha. Atlas has also been released from his contract today as well.

Martinez is a highly decorated talent who has held gold for such promotions as SHIMMER, SHINE, WSU, and many more. She made an appearance for AEW in 2019 coming out in the Casino Battle Royale at All Out as the “Joker” which is the final entrant to the match.
