Mickie James says she has “never been more ready for Asuka”

It has been just a few weeks since Mickie James made her return to in-ring competition. After a knee injury that had her out for over a year, James is ready to capture her seventh women’s title. A controversial return that was handled poorly had fans concerned at first, however, James seems to be on the right track now.

Since her return, she has had the duo of Natalya and Lana in her way toward championship gold. Last week, James responded to Asuka who was ready for a challenge. Asuka listed off all the women she has defeated and said it didn’t matter who is ready for her any longer. Asuka is ready for anything.

James then answered the challenge and said that she wants to take the RAW Women’s Title from The Empress. The two did battle in James’ return match to WWE in 2016 at TakeOver: Toronto. On her official website, Mickie has explained the following about her past with Asuka, now that she has become a household name:

“I’ll admit it, I got beat fair and square that night,” James says, recalling the match vividly. “The thing is, back then, I didn’t know a heck of a lot about Asuka. I can – and will beat her if given the chance.”

“In short, I have never been MORE ready for Asuka.”

James knows that she has to get through Lana and Natalya first. Natalya is very confident that she should face Asuka next instead of James. She feels that James has had enough opportunities. Last week, James made quick work of Lana.

Here is what James had to say after her victory last week:

“I had to send a message tonight, and I hope it was heard loud and clear – the fun and games are over,” said James, who also celebrated her birthday on Monday. “Lana and Natalya want to be a thorn in my side? Fine. I’ll pluck’em and chuck’em en route to a showdown with Asuka.”

Heading into RAW tonight, it appears that James has one thing in mind. Can she get the match against Asuka at Clash of Champions?
