Last night, Monday Night Raw was highlighted by an Eight Woman Gauntlet #1 Contender’s Match main event. While the match was won by Natalya, it is Mickie James who comes out of the match with the bigger spotlight.
Not particularly because of her performance in the match – although she did well as she eliminated Bayley before being eliminated by Ember Moon – but because of an achievement she’s conquered coming out of the match.
Per the @WWEStats Twitter page, Mickie James’s performance during last night’s Gauntlet Match officially marked the 5-time Women’s Champion as Raw’s official Iron Woman.
As of that Gauntlet Match, Mickie James has wrestled more matches on Raw than any other female competitor in the show’s 25+ year history.
The previous record holder was Trish Stratus, who James frequently feuded with since making her Raw debut on Oct. 10, 2005. With this latest record on her shoulders, James is surely guaranteed to one day join her onscreen frenemy in the WWE Hall of Fame.
James is also guaranteed to hold onto the record for quite some time considering how long it took before she could claim the record.
James started calling Raw her home in 2005 before being drafted to SmackDown in 2009. After briefly returning to Raw in March 2010, the former Divas Championship would subsequently leave the company in April.
James would be absent from WWE television until returning in late 2016. After WrestleMania 33, James would be drafted to Raw where she’s wrestled ever since.
The 39-year old veteran has led a long, impressive WWE career behind her. Her latest career achievement cements her legacy as a staple of Raw’s women’s division. Mickie James remains a legend in this industry with a lucrative resume that any wrestler – male or female – should aspire to emulate.
