MYC II: Week 2 Review

Ashley Rayne vs. Mercedes Martinez

Our main event tonight saw two in ring veterans Ashley Rayne and Mercedes Martinez square off. Rayne and Mercedes started off the match with some back and fourth chain wrestling. However, a northern lights suplex put Martinez in control of the match.

Mercedes maintained control using moves such as a nasty looking looking wheelbarrow smash as well as a vertical suplex. Rayne was able to mount a come back by hitting moves such as a high crossbody, a modified diamond cutter and her signature Cross Rayne maneuver. However, Martinez could not be put down. Mercedes was able to bounce back, hit a Fishermen Buster, and win the match up.

After her victory, Mercedes talked about how she always stays ready. Martinez also stated that when you get second chances, you have to make the most of them. Mercedes went to say that it is her time, her era and that she is the legend participating in this tournament. Martinez ended the interview by stating this time around, she’s here to win it all.

It was also shown that in the second round, Mercedes Martinez will do battle with none other than Meiko Satomura.

Thoughts: As I said on the previous page, to me this match had the most solid in ring action of the night. I don’t necessarily think this match was stellar or a showstealer. But it was without a doubt an enjoyable contest. The wheelbarrow downward suplex that Martinez used kind of had me worried because it looked like kind of a nasty landing for Rayne. But Ashley looked to be alright which is good.

I’ve followed Ashley since her time in Impact Wrestling and have been a fan of hers for years. So I’m really happy that she got to participate in the tournament and show what she can do on a WWE stage. And I think it goes without saying that Mercedes Martinez is absolutely incredible. She’s put so many years into the business, and is a real treat to watch in the ring. I’m not familiar with Satomura’s work. However, from reading comments online, it seems that there’s a lot of hype around Mercedes and Meiko’s match, which makes me excited to see what those two do in the second round.

I apologize for the delay in getting this review up. I hope you guys have been enjoying the tournament so far. I know I’m looking forward to seeing how it progresses and seeing who will end up in the finals at Evolution.

What did you guys think of this week’s episode? Which match did you enjoy the most? Are you looking forward to next week? Let us know in the comments below!
