Naomi has had a unique year so far in 2020. She received a booming response by fans once she returned at the Royal Rumble at the beginning of the year. Since being in the first women’s title match ever in Saudi Arabia against Bayley, Naomi hasn’t exactly been a focal point for the SmackDown women’s roster.
After falling victim or several losses to both Dana Brooke and Lacey Evans over the past number of months, Naomi’s fans took to Twitter to share their disappointment. A hashtag of #NaomiDeservesBetter started to trend and even caught the eye of other Superstars. Since then, Naomi has picked up wins against Lacey Evans and Bayley.
As a result of the outpouring of support for Naomi to be utilized better in the product, there has been a rumor of a push for her. Seemingly with the title pictures writing themselves for the upcoming Clash of Champions pay-per-view, when will Naomi’s push come to fruition?
Naomi recently spoke to Alex McCarthy from talkSPORT and had the following to say:
“Yeah, but it’s difficult as well because of the times we’re in,” she said. “The show is constantly changing and evolving, there’s just so much going on so I don’t know what the solutions are. All I can do is keep doing my part, keep showing up, and giving it my all. Ignoring the haters and continuing to do what I love. I’m happy to still be here, be present, and be a player. It’s not something I take for granted, especially after the big releases we had this year. Although what we do is very stressful at times, it’s something I remind myself to be grateful and thankful for. That I’m still able to wake up every day, have a job to go to and not just any job – but a dream job. We’re going to look at this pandemic era years, maybe decades down the road and be like ‘damn, that was crazy!’”
Although Naomi seems to agree that something is coming up for her it isn’t clear of what or when it will happen. She seems very optimistic in her response however and is humble and grateful to continue to do what she loves to do.
The last we saw of Naomi was on the Aug. 21 episode of SmackDown. She participated in the Beat the Clock challenging first losing to Sasha Banks and then defeating the SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley.
