Tegan Nox has returned and as a result, Io Shirai and Zoey Stark are the NEW NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions at The Great American Bash. Shirai & Stark ended the 63-day reign of The Way and become the fourth team to win the titles since its inception in March.
The Way’s Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell were in the midst of a battle with their NXT Women’s Tag Team on the line as they were facing Shirai and Stark. Just as LeRae had tagged in Hatwell and was in control of the match, the lights went out and the “charging battery” vignette appeared which charged up the Capitol Wrestling Center. As the battery finally made its way to 100%, Tegan Nox appeared on the stage.
This was enough of a distraction to cause both LeRae and Hartwell to be thrown off their game. Stark took advantage and delivered her finisher to get the pin on Hartwell for the win. Nox then sought her revenge as she went after LeRae. She has been out for nearly a year due to her third ACL tear. Nox was written off NXT programming after she suffered an attack backstage from LeRae.
This championship win marks the first gold that Stark has won since signing with WWE. She made her in-ring debut in February. Shirai was the NXT Women’s Champion for 304-days when she dropped it to Raquel Gonzalez in April. She follows both Ember Moon and Gonzalez as women who have won both the NXT Women’s and Women’s Tag Team Titles.
Post-match we also saw InDex reunite as Dexter Lumis appeared to carry Hartwell to the back.
Backstage segments of the night included the NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez and Dakota Kai making it known they aren’t finished with Shotzi Blackheart and Ember Moon. Toni Storm answered Sarray’s challenge from last week with one swift answer – No.
B-Fab was also on the show with her Hit Row stable as they hosted a Championship Cypher.
